HARTFORD, Conn.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Aetna Inc. (NYSE: AET) today announced that it has been presented with an “Above and Beyond” Award by the Connecticut Employer Support of the Guard and Reserve (CT-ESGR, Inc.). The company also has been nominated for the 2009 Secretary of Defense Employer Support Freedom Award, the highest recognition given to employers for their support of their employees who also serve in the National Guard and Reserve.
The award, given by state and territory ESGR committees, recognizes employers at the state and local level who have gone above and beyond the legal requirements for granting leave and providing support for associates serving in the National Guard and Reserve forces. Aetna has 100 employees who are serving in the military or have served in the recent past, including the Guard & Reserve.

The mission of the Connecticut Employer Support of the Guard and Reserve (CT-ESGR, Inc.) is to gain and maintain employer support of the men and women serving in the Guard and Reserve. ESGR is committed to assist employers as well as their employees by providing free education, counseling, and if necessary, mediation to ensure that both the employer and employee are in compliance with the existing federal Uniformed Services Employment and Reemployment Rights Act (USERRA).
